The "Study in Iraq" platform offers fully funded scholarships and half-funded scholarships for undergraduate and graduate studies in a wide range of disciplines, including medical and engineering fields.
As part of its efforts to attract international students, the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research in Iraq has launched an initiative aimed at enhancing higher education opportunities in Iraqi universities by providing free and half-free scholarships. Students can apply to most Iraqi universities through a unified platform called "Study in Iraq."

The education system in Iraq consists of several stages, which are:
- Kindergarten:Includes six years of primary education.
- Intermediate:Differs from most Arab countries as it includes six years, three years for intermediate education and three years for secondary education.
- Higher Education:After completing the previous stages, students are entitled to enroll in universities and research centers.
Which universities offer free scholarships in Iraq?
The scholarship is available at most public and private Iraqi universities, and among the best are:
- University of Baghdad:The oldest and largest university in Iraq, known for its prestigious academic reputation and distinguished programs.
- University of Mosul:Located in northern Iraq, it is renowned for its scientific and engineering disciplines.
- University of Basra:It is located in southern Iraq and is distinguished by its programs in engineering, oil, and gas.
- University of Technology:It is located in Baghdad and is famous for its engineering and technological specialties.
- Al-Nahrain University:It is located in Baghdad and is distinguished by its programs in medicine and humanities.
Types of scholarships on the Study in Iraq platform
- Full scholarships:They cover all tuition fees and accommodation.
- Half scholarships:They cover only half of the tuition fees.
- Both types of scholarships cover visa expenses but do not cover flight expenses, which are the responsibility of the student.

- The scholarship is open to students from all Arab countries outside Iraq.
Fields of the Study in Iraq scholarship:
The scholarship is available in all specialties, including medical and engineering specialties, and the specialties vary depending on the university to which one applies.
General application conditions:
- The student must be a foreigner or an Arab from non-Iraqi parents.
- The student or their parents must not be of Iraqi origin and must have obtained a non-Iraqi nationality.
- The student must not be of non-Iraqi origin and have obtained Iraqi nationality.
- The student commits not to apply for Iraqi nationality during the scholarship.
- The student applying for a bachelor's degree must hold a non-Iraqi preparatory certificate (high school diploma).
- The student must not have previously obtained a seat in one of the public or private Iraqi universities.
- The student is not allowed to work full-time or part-time during the scholarship.
- It is not allowed to combine two studies.
Conditions for acceptance in full scholarships for bachelor's degrees:
- The applicant's age must not exceed 25 years for medical specialties and 30 years for any other specialties.
- Medical group: General medicine with an average of 90%, and dentistry and pharmacy 85%.
- Engineering and nursing specialties with an average of 65%.
- Other scientific and humanitarian specialties with an average of 60%.
Admission requirements for free scholarships for graduate studies:
- To obtain a master's degree or higher diploma: 65%.
- To obtain a doctorate: 70%.
- The applicant's age must not exceed 45 years to obtain a master's degree or its equivalent, and not exceed 50 years to obtain a doctorate.
Required documents for applying for the study grants on the Study in Iraq platform
- A valid passport for no less than 6 months.
- A personal photo with a white background.
- A document proving the student's lineage from both parents.

How to apply for Study in Iraq scholarships
- Students can apply for the scholarship electronically for all universities by filling out the platform form Study in Iraq. This requires creating an account using an email and uploading the required documents.
- When applying, the student must choose five universities in the form (three of them for free scholarships and one for a half-free scholarship, in addition to the option to choose a university to study at their own expense if they wish).
- Attention should be paid to the order of preferences, as the nomination of applicants for scholarships depends on this order, taking into account the mechanism of competition and selection.
- The terms and conditions may vary between universities and specializations, so it is essential to review the link for the university and specialization to which you are applying.
- Universities review student files and verify their compliance with the admission requirements for scholarships.
- In case of submitting any incorrect documents, the scholarship has the right to cancel the nomination.
- Important notes:
- A student can create only one account on the platform, and any duplicate accounts will be deleted.
- The student will be contacted via email and through their account on the platform.
Application date for the Study in Iraq platform scholarships
- The application for the scholarship opened on May 1, 2026, and the end date for applications has not yet been announced. However, last year, the application period for the Study in Iraq platform scholarships for bachelor's and diploma (undergraduate) programs ended in mid-August, while the application period for graduate and higher diploma scholarships ended on June 1.
